How To Download Adobe Reader Without Using Adobe Download Manager

Posted: 15 Jan 2011 11:00 AM PST

Despite the multitude of capable alternatives, Adobe Reader remains the "standard" when it comes to PDF viewers. So in some cases (mostly when it comes to business use) you just have to use it, especially when it comes to PDF which have complex/uncommon elements. So when it comes to downloading Adobe Reader, you are forced to use their Download Manager which has had its own problems in the past… besides, that why would you need a download manager for a sub-100 MB file anyway?

To skip the Adobe Download Manager altogether and download the Adobe Reader install files, just jump straight to Adobe’s FTP site for Adobe Reader. From here, navigate to the appropriate folder and download the install files directly.

The extra overhead Adobe adds to this process is really quite puzzling considering all you want is a PDF viewer. Does every software vendor really need their own update notifier and download program?
